Razorpay has integrated Apple Pay into its payment gateway to support both online and physical transactions across India. The update allows eligible shoppers to finalize purchases using Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode. This functionality removes the requirement for manual card entry or waiting for an OTP.
At launch, Apple Pay in India supports Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
The payment option is currently available for users shopping at several businesses, including Zepto, ixigo, IndiGo, Tata 1mg, and JioMart. When using the feature, customers can select Apple Pay at checkout, review the transaction, and authenticate it on an Apple device using stored cards in Apple Wallet without typing card details or receiving an OTP.
For in-store purchases, users can bring an iPhone or Apple Watch close to a compatible payment terminal and complete authentication on the device. Apple Pay utilizes tokenized card credentials, which prevents the actual card number from being shared with the business during the transaction to provide protection against fraud and reduce chargeback risks.
Integration and Regulatory Context
Razorpay enables eligible merchants to offer Apple Pay through its existing checkout infrastructure, without requiring them to build a separate payment flow. Razorpay handles the routing of transactions across Apple Pay, card networks, and issuing banks, processing the domestic payment after shopper authorization.
Rahul Kothari, COO of Razorpay, stated that payments should be quick and effortless on mobile devices and payment outlets. He noted that Apple Pay removes friction and fits into existing checkouts used by businesses without requiring them to rebuild anything.
The deployment aligns with changes in digital payment authentication frameworks in India. In September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India issued a framework allowing regulated entities to use alternative authentication mechanisms, which came into effect in April 2026.
Apple Pay supports iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, while Apple says Mac support in India is coming soon. The service can also be used on PCs through supported browsers including Chrome and Firefox.
