IKEA opens second city store in Delhi-NCR at Saket

IKEA is set to open its second city-format retail outlet in New Delhi on July 30, located at DLF Avenue in Saket. This expansion represents a strategic move to increase the furniture giant’s accessibility within the Delhi-NCR market, building on the success of its existing location in West Delhi.

IKEA Retail Expansion Strategy and Store Details

The new Saket facility spans 30,000 square feet and is designed to serve residents in South and Central Delhi. This store model focuses on convenience, offering approximately 3,000 products for immediate purchase, with about 1,400 of those items available as grab-and-go selections.

Beyond the physical inventory at the Saket location, shoppers retain access to the full IKEA catalogue of 6,900 items. Customers can utilize the company’s mobile application, official website, or the Shop by Phone service to order products not stocked on the store floor.

This opening aligns with the Swedish retailer’s broader objective of establishing 30 stores throughout India by 2030. The company is currently developing larger, full-scale retail outlets in Gurgaon and Noida to further strengthen its presence in the National Capital Region.

Logistics Partnership With Flipkart’s Ekart

IKEA is deepening its operational collaboration with Ekart, the logistics division of Flipkart, to manage large-format deliveries. This partnership is designed to support the retailer’s transition toward sustainable, technology-driven supply chain operations.

The logistics arrangement currently covers last-mile delivery services in Chennai using an entirely electric vehicle fleet. Plans are in place to extend this integrated logistics model to the Delhi-NCR region by 2025, facilitating more efficient order fulfillment for online and app-based purchases.

Ekart’s infrastructure is intended to provide the scale and reliability required as IKEA grows its physical and digital footprint in India. By utilizing specialized logistics networks, the company aims to maintain consistent service standards across its expanding market reach.

Market Research and Regional Focus

IKEA management identifies the Delhi-NCR region as a critical area for its long-term growth in India. To better align with local consumer needs, the company conducted direct field research in South Delhi, engaging with residents to understand their daily living challenges and home furnishing goals.

Data gathered from the performance of the first city-model store in West Delhi is actively influencing the company’s regional expansion roadmap. This iterative approach allows the brand to refine its retail strategy based on specific customer behavior and preferences observed within the local market.

The upcoming Saket store serves as a tangible step in the brand’s effort to integrate into the daily lives of urban consumers. By balancing smaller city-center shops with upcoming large-format developments, the company is positioning itself to capture a broader share of the regional home products market.
