Indian spacetech startups collected $252.9 Mn in funding as the sector moved into a commercialization phase. The amount raised so far reached nearly double the total from 2025. Investors shifted their focus toward long term commercial viability, scalable business models, and sustainable revenue streams.
Skyroot Aerospace achieved unicorn status in May after completing a $60 Mn funding round.
The company placed a rocket into orbit with the Vikram-1 mission and prepared for a $200 Mn round. Pixxel completed a $100 Mn Series C funding round, which marked the single-largest funding round raised by a spacetech startup in India.
Market Size Projections and Policy Support
Jitendra Singh estimated the size of the Indian space economy at $9 Bn and projected growth to $45 Bn over the next decade.
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre deployed capital from the ₹1,600 Cr Antariksh Venture Capital Fund. The fund made its opening investment of ₹60 Cr in Dhruva Space in July 2026. The Research, Development and Innovation fund allocated nearly ₹834 Cr to spacetech startups in its inaugural cohort.
GalaxEye secured a United States patent for OptoSAR satellite imaging technology. Agnikul Cosmos completed a test firing of the Agnite engine, which features a semi-cryogenic engine and a 3D-printed single-piece rocket engine.
Investor Cautions and Evaluation Metrics
Investors expressed caution regarding high valuations and whether market demand is sufficient. Viju George from Mela Ventures noted that satellite revenue models can be capex-driven while data streams offer high-margin recurring revenue.
Ashish Taneja from GrowX Ventures identified earth observation as a large market opportunity and described the infrastructure layer as supply-constrained.
Startups face pressure to expand beyond government buyers and target commercial enterprises and foreign sovereign buyers. Growth investors evaluate specific use cases, defensibility, execution capability, and customer demand rather than focusing solely on technical achievements. Public listings may offer additional capital and liquidity as companies scale their operations.
