Netflix has officially confirmed a $587 million cash expenditure to acquire InterPositive, an artificial intelligence startup co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck. The transaction, which was disclosed in recent regulatory filings, brings the entire InterPositive staff into the Netflix organization.
InterPositive AI Tools and Post-Production Workflow
The technology developed by InterPositive focuses on assisting filmmakers during the post-production phase. These tools are designed to address common production obstacles that occur on set.
Specifically, the software helps creators manage challenges such as incorrect lighting, the need for background replacements, or the recovery of missing shots.
Ben Affleck Joins Netflix as Senior Advisor
As part of the acquisition agreement, Ben Affleck will transition into a role as a senior advisor at Netflix. In previous statements regarding the startup’s mission, Affleck emphasized that the primary goal of the technology is to protect the power of human creativity.
By providing automated assistance for technical corrections, the company aims to allow filmmakers to focus on the artistic elements of their projects.
Netflix Generative AI Strategy and Industry Context
This acquisition aligns with a broader trend of technology integration within the streaming giant’s production pipeline. According to recent earnings documentation, Netflix has already utilized generative AI across approximately 300 of its titles.
The addition of InterPositive provides the company with internal resources to further refine these capabilities as it continues to scale its content production efforts.
