Chennai Startup REIO Systems Targets 6G with FR3 Radio Platform

Chennai-based startup REIO Systems has developed a specialized software-defined radio platform designed to operate across the 7–24 GHz frequency range. The platform targets the emerging FR3 band, where much of the research into future 6G networks is expected to concentrate.

A software-defined radio moves much of the radio functionality into software rather than relying on fixed circuits designed for a particular frequency band. This allows researchers to work across a wider range of frequencies and reconfigure the hardware for different experiments and communication standards.

The company’s platform puts processing directly on the board, using field-programmable gate arrays to handle beamforming, spectrum sensing and signal conditioning in real time without requiring external graphics processors. Its modular and synchronisable design can also support multi-node testbeds for experiments involving technologies such as massive MIMO.

Company Background and Operations

Incorporated in July 2023, the company describes its roots in the research ecosystem around IIT Madras.

Directors Lakshman Bhaskaran and Ravi Teja Devara lead the firm from its headquarters in Velachery, Chennai. The company targets academic research groups, defence electronics organisations, telecom equipment manufacturers and drone developers with its modular hardware.

Corporate filings record turnover of under ₹10 crore for the year ended March 2025. The company has also reported around $52,000 in seed funding and maintains paid-up capital of ₹1 lakh.

REIO Systems was among the companies selected for Bharat Innovates 2026 and showcased its technology in Nice, France, in June. The company has been exploring opportunities to work with European research institutions on FR3 and massive MIMO testbeds.
