Former Perplexity Developer Launches Polar AI Browser

Kevin Jiang, a former Perplexity developer who worked on the Comet project, has launched Polar, a new AI-powered web browser built for professionals. Instead of focusing on general web searches, Polar is designed to help users automate their daily work.

The startup has also raised $5.7 million in seed funding. The round was led by Madrona, with investments from former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke, Phia founder Phoebe Gates, Modal CEO Erik Bernhardsson, Flapping Airplanes co-founder Benjamin Spector, Etched co-founder Rob Wachen, and Fundamental Research Labs CEO Robert Yang.

AI Browser Built for Work

Unlike many AI browsers that focus on chat and one-time tasks, Polar is designed to handle ongoing business work.

Users can assign tasks to AI agents, which complete the work by interacting with open browser tabs.

The browser is built to support time-consuming jobs such as recruitment, sales outreach, marketing campaigns, and business research.

Because Polar keeps browser sessions active, its AI agents can work inside websites where users are already logged in. This allows the agents to access the tools and services professionals use throughout the day.

Focus on Automation

According to Jiang, many users currently use Polar alongside their main web browser as a dedicated automation tool.

Although the company is focused on browser-based automation today, it may expand into broader computer automation in the future.

Pricing and Availability

Polar is available for free and includes a limited number of daily credits for AI-powered tasks.

Users who need higher usage limits can subscribe to paid plans starting at $20 per month.

Backing From Industry Leaders

Madrona partner Sabrina Albert said one of the biggest challenges is building AI agents that can work reliably across websites where users are already signed in.

She believes the browser approach gives Polar an advantage because it understands how users interact with websites while remaining logged into their accounts.
