Cursor Launches INR 649 India-Exclusive AI Coding Subscription

Cursor, an AI-powered coding platform, has launched a new subscription plan tailored for India. The new offering, called Cursor Start, costs INR 649 per month. This is the company’s first regional pricing strategy.

The launch follows a period of rapid growth in India where the user base tripled over the past year to over 3 million developers.

Cursor Start aims to bridge the gap between its free and premium Pro plans by providing developers with essential tools like Grok 4.5, Cursor Composer 2.5, and mobile app access for iOS users.

Subscribers can also use plugins and specialized features such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP), hooks, and talents. However, it doesn’t include advanced capabilities like Anthropic’s frontier AI models or features such as Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, or Cursor SDK.

India is becoming an important battleground for AI companies looking to attract local developers. Notable examples include OpenAI with its India-specific strategies and Google expanding its developer tools.

Reports suggest that SpaceX might acquire Cursor at a $60 billion valuation. If this deal goes through, it could significantly boost Cursor’s market presence in the region.

For Indian developers, the Start plan offers a balanced option between free access and full Pro features without making a big financial commitment. By setting prices based on local economic conditions, Cursor is making AI tools more accessible to more users.

This move could pave the way for other AI companies to adopt regional pricing models as India’s importance grows. If successful, it will help maintain and expand Cursor’s user base in the Indian market.

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) integration is a major driver behind localized accessibility in India alongside the ₹649 price point, making transactions smoother for Indian developers.
